Welding Inspection Services Limited was founded in 1983. The company won the NDT contract at Aughinish Alumina Limited in 1987. At that time there were 3 employees. The company also had a contract with Tullow Oil in Senegal at this time. These contracts were followed up with contract awards at several other major companies, and the Company began to grow in numbers. In 1989 we carried out our first works for the ESB at Moneypoint Generating Station. Since then we have worked in most of the power stations around the country, in which, we have gained great experience in the inspection of boilers and power plant in general. In 1991 we carried out overseas work in Libya and the UK.

At present we have 12 full time employees, 2 part time employees. We also use NDT subcontractors when necessary.
The major clients we carry out work for at present are as follows: RUSal Aughinish Alumina, Atlantic Projects Company, Liebherr Container Cranes, Foynes Engineering Limited, ESB, Endesa, Kerry Food Ingredients, I.P.I., Irish Rail etc.
We have gained invaluable experience over the years working with our customers above amongst others. Our areas of expertise are as follows: Engineering Inspection, all aspects of Non-Destructive testing including Ultrasonic Inspection, X and Gamma radiographic inspection, MPI and DPI inspection, MFL Tank Floor Scanning, Corrosion surveying, weld procedure and welder qualification, holiday detection, visual inspection, camera and fibre-optic inspections and eddy current inspection. Over the past five years we have developed into a company that runs and manages major NDT projects on a turnkey basis. This has been particularly the case with ESB projects. On some ESB NDT projects we have had up to 50 people under our instruction. These would consist of NDT personnel, Metallurgists, Laggers, Scaffolders, Fitters and Welders etc.
WIS have implemented and are now accredited to the following: EN ISO 9001:2015, EN ISO 14001:2015 and EN ISO 45001:2018.
WIS have attended courses and examinations at QSA- Global in Houston, Texas and now have technicians trained and qualified in
Global equipment. WIS also have technicians trained and qualified in Source Retrieval, this entailed the actual retrieval of a live source, which other companies providing this service do not carry out. WIS intend to roll out these services to NDT Contractors nationwide.
